GOT BIG WORMS?
With Lake Monticello on the downhill side of the spawn, the bass are heading out to the deeper structure sooner than later. It is hard to find a better structure bait than the plastic worm. Recently, the folks here at MBB were introduced to a product that may interest Lake Monticello anglers. The Eiland Lures “XL14” is a 14 inch ribbon tail worm that looks to be a great summertime weapon on the big Floridas here on Monticello. MBB was lucky enough to attend an open house hosted by the manufacturer on Saturday and got the lowdown on these giant plastics. They are very impressive in the tank. If they look half as good in the lake as they do in the tank they will be a killer! These baits are available in 6 colors including Earthworm/Blue, Black/Blue, Black/Red, Black, Watermelon/Red, and Junebug. For dealer info on the XL14 shoot us an email at info@monticellobigbass.com.

Fishing Report 9-7-10
The surface temperature has dipped to around 80 degrees on Lake Monticello. Hopefully this is a signal of things to come. There are a few bass to be caught on points in 12 to 18 feet of water. There are some deep bass to be caught in 24 plus feet of water on a tailspinner. The live bait fishermen are still catching decent bass near the surface and on bottom. Overall, the bite is still a little off, but if the temps continue down, the shallow bite will improve in a hurry! Good luck!

Fishing Report 8-22-10
The surface temps are in the 90s and number of trailers in the parking lot is on the low side. There are bass being caught by a few of the guys on the lake. Right now, live bait rigged on a circle hook with no weight or balloon seems to be the ticket. There are still a few bass coming in on XL 14 worms in solid black and watermelon/red fished on the drops. With the heat index in the 105 to 110 range night fishing is option that some anglers have been taking advantage of. Dark plastics have been catching some bass after dark. If you do venture out on the lake, be careful and carry plenty to drink. Good luck!

Standard Equipment for summertime bassin'
The surface temperature on Lake Monticello feels like bathwater again and the bass have been a little on the tough to come by side. It sounds like a broken record, but jigs on the drops are catching a few bass. Black and blue seems to be the color right now. Also, the live baiters are still catching some on black salties and gold fish. The lake is low and hot. It's just good ole summer dog days fishing. Fall fishing is just around the corner, so better days are on the way! If you do venture out on the pond, bring plenty to drink and don't overheat! Good luck!
My goodness, it's HOT! If you're tough enough there are a few bass biting. Over the last few days there have two or three double digit bass pulled from Lake Monticello. Things are still very similar to last week's report. Bass are still on the drops biting slow baits. Worms, jigs, and Double Wide Beavers in dark colors are working on the structure fish. There continues to be a decent live bait bite. Smaller black salties seem to be getting more bites near the bottom. Trolling big cranks has been an effective way to catch good bass over the last few weeks. As always, being in the right place at the right time is key to catching bass on Lake Monticello. The hot temps are forecasted for the next few days. With the heat index over 100, be careful and drink plenty water! Good luck!
Fishing Report 7-26-10
The surface temp on Lake Monticello is between 88 and 90 right now. The bass are still on the contour drops and biting worms in dark colors. The bite is not fast, but worth the wait. The schooling action is still spotty with some really big bass coming in on topwaters at times. Trolling crankbaits has accounted for some quality fish over the last couple weeks. There are a few anglers using big live bait with success. For the most part the action has not been fast, but there have several bass in the 10 lb class caught over the last two or three weeks. You can't catch em' if your bait is not in the water. Be careful and Good luck!
